• Six-Cylinder Ram 1500 RHO Offers More Power Per Buck Of Any Off-Road Sport Truck

    Ram added yet another sport truck to its off-road line up, but the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO, nicknamed “rhino,” is definitely more than just an eight-inch-wider Ram Rebel with a more powerful inline-6 engine. It’s a truck that’s been developed specifically for the serious off-road wanderer, and it serves as a replacement for the now-dead V8 TRX.

    Now, I know you’re thinking, “But Jalopnik, isn’t Ram’s lineup already lousy with powerful sport trucks?” and you’d be right! But as of right now, none of them come with the Hurricane High Output turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine good for 540 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque. This beefy truck is more of a sibling of the Ram 1500 Classic Warlock and Ram 1500 Rebel, and with pricing at $69,995, it tops the off-road line up. That’s $129.60 per pony.

    Of course, anyone in the market for a Rebel right now knows its nearly impossible to get one close to its starting price of $64,490, and that’s with an inline-six that only makes 420 hp and 469 lb-ft.

    The RHO can tow 8,380 pounds with a max payload of 1,520 pounds. With 32 inches of water fording, this truck is pretty close to serving as a temporary boat, and with 11.8 inches of ground clearance, the RHO sits over two inches higher than the rest of the lineup thanks to absolutely beastly 35-inch tires. The RHO will do 0-to-60 mph in 4.6 seconds and 0-to-100 mph in 11.7 seconds, and you get a top speed of 118 mph. Do you need that in an off-roading truck? Probably not! But you’re getting it. You also get the regular bevy of drive modes, with a special Baja mode for tearing up sand dunes at speed.

    And there there’s that big hood duct all lit up like you could land a plane on it during a thick fog. You can’t miss it. This isn’t just for show; the vent scoops up air to aid in the combustion process, with a high-capacity radial air filter keeping all that fresh air fresh. The see-through RAM badge and airy grille are also meant to keep the engine breathing at max capacity. It’s an easy clean conical filter that owners can knock the dust and rocks out of during a sojourn off road. When that air finishes its journey through the engine and comes out the tailpipe of the RHO, it will have a distinct growl thanks to a “Sport Tune” low-restriction system with true dual pipes.

    The truck also comes with some true off-roading tech that makes the rhino so much more than a parking lot queen. High-strength aluminum is used throughout the guts of the RHO, making for a lighter, more efficient and stronger vehicle. You can especially see the use of this material in the independent front suspension system, especially in the front upper and lower control arms inspired by desert off-road racers. Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shock keeps your ride nice and loose whether on rocks, sand or the daily commute, with plenty of travel. The rear axle gets 14 inches of space to play with — 40 percent more than any other 1500 — but without sacrificing cargo space.

    Inside you’ll find sporty seats meant to hug driver and passenger alike like their fathers never could. The requisite screens are there of course: a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster in front of the driver, a 14.5-inch display in the middle running Uconnect 5 and another 10.25-inch screen for the passenger who can scroll through apps and the internet while riding shotgun. Ram boast that is a best-in-class amount of screens. Not entirely sure that more screens = better car, but the RHO also comes with “redundant” HVAC buttons, so at least you can heat up and cool down without navigating menus and touching screens. Not only that, The RHO comes with a full-color heads-up display, and it also gets all of the driver-assistance features you could ever want (if you even want them) with features like lane centering and adaptive cruise control.

    Orders opened Thursday for the U.S. market and you can expect tires to meet the road in the third quarter of this year, but you’ll likely have to get in line to get a hold of one.

    The big news in off-road 2025 Ram 1500 pickups is, of course, the new RHO with its TRX body and suspension, but lower price and Hurricane engine. But it’s not the only Ram 1500 that has just been revealed with a penchant for dirt. It launched two other trims for two other purposes and price points. Among them is the Rebel X, which adds additional features for comfort and capability for off-road use over the regular Rebel. And then there’s the Warlock, which continues from last year, but with the new straight-six.

    2025 Ram 1500 Rebel X

    The Rebel X is the range-topping Rebel, and it celebrates 10 years of the nameplate. It’s built off the Rebel Level 2 equipment group, which adds features such as the 14.5-inch center touchscreen, passenger-side infotainment screen, panoramic sunroof, heated front and rear seats, heated wheel, dual phone charging and 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system among many others. From there it adds a number of extra features including a new Rough Road Cruise Control. In addition to maintaining speed on dirt roads, it also continuously adjusts suspension damping and steering weight as needed. It would seem like it might be for low speed, similar to Toyota’s Crawl Control or Ford’s Trail Control, but Ram didn’t go into deep detail about it. Additionally, the Rebel X gets special logo decals, high-bolster seats, the paddle shifters and console shifter from the G/T package and red interior accents. Otherwise it gets the same 1-inch suspension lift, Bilstein shocks, 33-inch tires on 17-inch wheels, softer rear anti-roll bar, sport hood, black bumper, skid plate, LED fog lights and other black exterior accents as a Rebel. It also gets the standard-output Hurricane twin-turbo 3.0-liter engine with 420 horsepower and 469 pound-feet of torque. It starts at $66,190 with destination

    2025 Ram 1500 Warlock

    Also revised is the Ram 1500 Warlock. As before, it’s meant as an affordable option that offers some of the core upgrades of the Rebel, but without a bunch of the fancier features that raise the price. So it gets a 1-inch suspension lift and a skid plate, plus loads of black accents, including the dual exhaust tips. But it has 18-inch wheels, the basic 8.4-inch infotainment screen, physical gauge dials and a cloth front bench. It does still get a leather-wrapped steering wheel, though, along with nadaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist and blind-spot monitoring. Heated front seats, a spray-in bedliner and side steps are options. Under the hood is the base Hurricane engine with 420 horsepower and 469 pound-feet of torque. The Warlock starts at $56,255

    Ford Q1 earnings top expectations, sees full-year profit 'tracking to high-end'

     

    Ford (F) reported first quarter results after the bell that beat expectations on Wednesday, with its changing product game plan front and center along with its focus on gas and hybrid offerings. Ford also boosted some guidance metrics, but not its full-year profit outlook.

    For the quarter, Ford reported revenue of $42.8 billion, beating estimates of $40.04 billion, and up 3% compared to a year ago. Ford posted adjusted earnings per share of $0.63 topping forecasts of $0.42, with adjusted EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) coming in at $2.8 billion, compared to estimates of $2.54 billion. Ford’s results were better than those in Q4, when it was dealing with the lingering effects of the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike.

    Ford said full-year adjusted EBIT was “tracking to high end of $10 billion to $12 billion,” though it raised its adjusted FCF target raised to $6.5 billion to $7.5 billion, with CAPEX guidance tightened to $8 billion to $9 billion. Previously had projected adjusted EBIT of $10 billion to $12 billion, adjusted free cash flow of $6 billion to $7 billion, and capital expenditures of $8 billion to $9.5 billion.

    Ford shares were pulling higher in after hours trading, up over 3%. Ford’s results come after GM reported strong Q1 results and boosted its yearly profit outlook.

    “Customers want vehicles that they’re passionate about, choices in how they’re powered, quality that’s constantly getting better and great value,“ Ford President and CEO Jim Farley said in a statement. “With Ford+, we’re increasingly giving them all those things in ways that others don’t and creating a company that will lead for the long haul.”

    Last year Ford divided its business into three units: Ford Blue, for traditional gas-powered autos; Ford Model e, for the EV division; and Ford Pro, for its commercial and super duty truck business. Here’s the breakdown for Q1: 

    • Ford Blue: $21.8 billion in revenue, EBIT of $905 million

    • Model e: $100 million in revenue, EBIT loss of $1.32 billion

    • Ford Pro: $18.0 billion in revenue, EBIT of $3.01 billion

    During the first quarter, Ford pushed deeper into its gas and hybrid vehicles, with EV spending and production taking a back seat. Earlier this month, Ford said that it is pushing back EV production at its massive BlueOval City EV campus in Tennessee to 2026 from its initial 2025 start date. Ford also revealed it is “retiming” the launch of upcoming EVs at its plant in Oakville, Ontario, where it plans to build next-generation three-row EVs, and most likely a full-size SUV. The company is aiming to launch those vehicles in 2027, pushing back the original 2025 timeline.

    Ford also said earlier in the quarter it would add a third shift to boost production of its Bronco SUV and midsize ranger pickup to meet customer demand. Meanwhile, Ford is focusing on its hybrid offerings, like the Maverick pickup and brand new F-150 with hybrid powertrain.

    This was reflected in Ford’s Q1 US deliveries which jumped 6.8% to 508,083 vehicles, powered by strong sales of electrified products such as hybrids. Ford’s Maverick hybrid pickup saw its best quarter ever, with sales jumping 77% in the first quarter. Maverick also powered overall hybrid sales to a 42% jump to 38,421, with Ford claiming this was also the best quarter for hybrids and that momentum will continue.

    Even Ford’s EV offerings — the Mustang Mach-E, Ford Lightning EV, and its commercial E-Transit vans —bucked the recent trend of softening demand. Ford’s overall EV portfolio saw a massive 82% jump to 20,223 EVs sold in Q1, with the Mustang Mach-E jumping 77.3% to 9,589 units sold and the Lightning pickup seeing sales surge 80.4% to 7,743 units. While the sales numbers here are strong, Ford relied on heavy discounting, cheap financing rates, and lease deals to move inventory.

    A down note for Ford, however, was its flagship F-150 sales. Though the F-Series (which includes the F-150 and heavy-duty F-250 and F-350 offerings) retained the crown of America’s top-selling truck, sales fell 10.2% in the quarter to 152,943 units. Ford has experienced a slow ramp-up of the all-new F-150, which started sales in March.
