    Inspired by it’s role in the Matrix Reloaded, the CTS M wore all black just as Neo, Trinity and Morpheus did in the films. Cadillac customized the CTS in a partnership with GM Performance. Outside it wore a special Ebony Diamond paint, black chrome grille, 19″ black chrome wheels, ground effects package and HID headlights and fog lights.

    No pictures were shown of the interior, but Cadillac said there were ebony leather seats with cashmere piping, Alcantara headliner, leather bound floor mats, ebony leather wrapped dash and black chrome trim used throughout the interior.

    Charging in the U.S. sucks. It’s getting better thanks to some massive new investments, but it’s still incredibly common to show up at a charge site and find the only available charger is broken. The Tesla Supercharger network is currently the best in the business, which helps explain why every automaker decided to switch to NACS, but even then, the rollout has been slow. Rivian’s solution? Simply gather data on all the chargers around the country and grade them so drivers have a better idea of where the broken ones are.

    The Verge reports that the latest software update Rivian recently released uses data gathered from customer cars to point owners toward chargers that actually work and avoids chargers that it thinks are broken. And while it’s a relatively simple idea considering how connected modern electric vehicles are, it’s also one of those things that’s so obvious, it’s hard to understand why it isn’t already commonplace across the entire industry.

    “Our North Star is charging and trip planning in EVs should just work. You should not think about it,” Wassym Bensaid, Rivian’s head of software, told the Verge. He later added, “Surprisingly, actually, there’s multiple chargers rated F. That was one of the ‘a ha’ moments as we went through the data.”

    And while you may not like the idea of an automaker knowing so much about your charging experience, at least Rivian is using the data it gathers to help make its customers’ lives a little easier:

    Every time one of our vehicles interact with the charger, we have a number of data which are uploaded to the cloud and that give us a very accurate understanding of the health of the session that the vehicle is having. So we get data related to not only the number of successful sessions, but then how many trials did you make? How was the payment? What’s the speed of interaction? What’s the overall peak performance that you have within a session? What’s the thermal derating behavior?

    To make the latest software update useful, Rivian has reportedly been gathering customer charging data for more than a year. There are only so many Rivians on the road, and it doesn’t have access to other automakers’ EV charging experiences, so it’s not going to be a perfect system, especially this early on, but at the very least, they’re trying. They’re also adding a customer feedback option that lets owners report bad chargers and highlight the ones that work the best.

    “Charging should just work,” Bensaid told the Verge. “And the more we get happy customers, the more we remove charging anxiety as a barrier for adoption.”

    Lamborghini earlier in April held its innaugural Lamborghini Arena, a gathering that ran for two days at Italy’s Imola Circuit and was open to both customers and fans.

    Around 6,000 participants and 380 Lamborghinis, from past and present, visited the racetrack, including the new Revuelto supercar.

    Lamborghini also marked the event with the unveiling of a speical Revuelto crafted by the automaker’s Ad Personam personalization department.

    The car’s exterior dons the contrasting colors of Grigio Hati (gray) for the main body and accents of Verde Scandal (green) and Nero Noctis (black). New carbon-fiber parts with a gloss finish were also used for the exterior, together with gloss-black wheels measuring 21 inches up front and 22 inches at the rear.

    The interior echoes the exterior colors, with Nero Ade (black) for the seats combined with Verde Scandal accent stitching. The same shade of green was used for the Lamborghini logos embroidered on the headrests. As an extra special touch, the rear bulkhead panel features a representation of the Imola Circuit together with the script “Lamborghini Arena 2024” in Bianco Leda (white).

    The Revuelto made its debut in early 2023, and while it may appear similar to its Aventador predecessor, it represents a ground-up redesign that in addition to electrification includes a new carbon-fiber tub, a new 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and a newly developed V-12. Lamborghini’s plant in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, also needed to be upgraded to accommodate production of the car.

    The powertrain consists of a 6.5-liter V-12 and trio of electric motors. Two of the electric motors are at the front axle and work independently, and the third is integrated with the rear-mounted transmission. Lamborghini quotes performance numbers of 2.5 seconds in the 0-62 mph run and a top speed of 218 mph. A 3.8-kwh battery also means a small electric range is possible. A similar setup, likely with a twin-turbocharged V-8 instead of the V-12, is expected to feature in plug-in hybrid successor to the Huracán due late this year.

    Toyota is continuing to break into the off-road SUV market with two massive drops: the all-new 4Runner and the all-new Land Cruiser. Both SUVs boast rugged off-road chops, they sit on the same TNGA-F truck platform, and they even share several similar components. Are there really distinct enough audiences to appeal to both of these highly similar machines? I had to find out.

    During Toyota’s big drive event for the Land Cruiser, Tacoma hybrid, new Camry and Crown Signia, I spoke to Kalifa Sprowl, senior marketing planner for the Land Cruiser, about the ultimate goals for the Land Cruiser, especially as it sits within Toyota’s greater body-on-frame landscape.

    “All of our vehicles have a certain personality that appeals to a certain type of buyer,” Sprowl said. “The 4Runner and Land Cruiser are interesting in that they play in such a growing segment, so we’re speaking to several different customers with our vehicles. The differentiating factor between the two is that if you want something more rugged and more off-road-y, something that has capability baked in and still a great overall style, you’re probably looking at the 4Runner versus the Land Cruiser. If you still want that capability and off-road confidence with a little more refined elegance, you’re looking more toward a Land Cruiser.”

    To better illustrate what Sprowl means, let’s take a look at the two TNGA-F SUVs side by side, starting with their similarities. Both feature Toyota’s turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a hybrid system; as a result, both will make 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. Both have 112.2-inch wheelbases and an eight-speed automatic transmission, and both vehicles offer four-wheel drive, though only the 4Runner has a two-wheel-drive option. Both have the same 6,000-lb towing capacity.

    The 4Runner is 1.1 inches longer than the Land Cruiser, which allows for an optional third row that the LC does not get, but the Land Cruiser has 5.3 additional inches of height compared to the 4Runner. The 4Runner has 9.2 inches of ground clearance, while the Land Cruiser gets a mere 8.0 inches.

    Underneath, both have double-wishbone front suspension and multilink coil rear suspension, plus electronic sway bar disconnects. But the Land Cruiser only has one form of suspension architecture between all of its trims, while the 4Runner has road-going models sprinkled in and amongst its beefy, off-road-specific suspension platforms.

    On the Trailhunter trim of the 4Runner, you can expect 32-degree approach and 24-degree departure angles, while the Land Cruiser has a 31-degree approach and 14-degree departure angles.

    Basically, styling aside, the biggest difference between the 4Runner and the Land Cruiser is that the Land Cruiser is a little more luxurious and not quite as gung-ho capable as the 4Runner. The Land Cruiser is designed for a more comfortable off-roading experience, while the 4Runner Trailhunter is going to give you a really dedicated, rugged experience. Considering how popular off-road SUVs are right now, there’s easily a market for both machines.

    A redesigned Toyota Land Cruiser starts sales this spring for less than $60,000, and we just tested one. The latest Land Cruiser is smaller and less powerful than before, but it’s also a lot lighter and this has resulted in significant efficiency gains.

    The Hyundai N performance division has launched its first electric vehicle in the form of the Ioniq 5 N, and we’ve also tested one. The high-performance electric compact crossover benefits from a widened track, a stiffer suspension, and larger wheels and brakes over the stock Ioniq 5. There’s also a lot more power.

    Aston Martin’s successor to the DBS has been spotted ahead of an expected debut in the second half of the year. The new car appears to share little design-wise with the DBS, but under the hood should be the same twin-turbocharged V-12 as found in the outgoing model, perhaps with more power.

    Tesla owners are understandably peeved about the newest update (version 12.3.4) to the so-called Full Self Driving suite of driver assist features. It would seem that Tesla’s camera-only driving system is having a hard time figuring out curbs. As InsideEVs pointed out, some owners are taking to social media to voice their displeasure that their cars are driving into curbs and costing them thousands of dollars in repairs to the wheels and new tires. Curbing a wheel is embarrassing and annoying, but doing it at speed is potentially quite dangerous.

    Last month Tesla gave a free one-month trial of FSD software to all Tesla owners with vehicles equipped with the hardware necessary to use it. Many Tesla drivers paid $12,000 upfront for the option, while many others pay a $200 monthly subscription fee to access the programming. It would seem that many of these free subscription users finding damage to their cars after using FSD and running into curbs are having a less than satisfactory experience, and are unlikely to pay for the service after their free trial ends.

    Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims that the company will be launching its long-awaited “robotaxi” feature in August of this year, which would allegedly allow Tesla owners to rent out their cars as driverless taxi cabs when they aren’t using them. For example, when you’re normally parked at work, your car could be off earning you some fare money. If FSD isn’t good enough to keep from clipping a curb with the owner driving, what kind of damage—or danger—could the system cause when it is totally empty?

    It’s difficult to tell if this curb hopping problem is new due to a change in the vehicle software, or if it’s just being talked about more often because new users are trying it out for the first time. Teslas with “Full Self Driving” driver assistance packages have had issues with hitting curbs for years.

    Tesla says you have to be “ready to take over” from the software at any time, but even the quickest humans would have a hard time reacting to the difference between a car driving within the lane and a car drifting over to slam a curb. Maybe this whole thing is just a bad idea in the first place.

    Audi teases updated E-Tron GT

    Audi’s E-Tron GT is set to receive a round of updates likely mirroring the changes made to the related Porsche Taycan for the 2025 model year.

    This means we can expect improvements in range, performance, and comfort levels, and possibly the arrival of a new flagship grade. Audi hasn’t said when the updated E-Tron GT will arrive, but a launch late this year or early next is a strong possibility.

    Audi on Tuesday released some photos of camouflaged prototypes. The photos indicate the styling will change very little. There appears to be a new front fascia design that helps to visually increase the width of the car. Some changes inside are likely as well, perhaps focused on the infotainment system.

    For mechanical updates, Audi has only confirmed an improved suspension system with new levels of adjustment. This is likely a reference to the dual-valve dampers that were added to the updated Taycan. The dampers allow for adjustment of both rebound and compression, resulting in a wider performance bandwidth when it comes to comfort and handling control.

    The E-Tron GT is currently offered in the U.S. in standard and sporty RS grades. Both grades come with a 93-kwh battery good for 249 miles of range. Peak performance, courtesy of the RS grade, is 637 hp with boost mode (normally 597 hp), or enough for 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.1 seconds and a governed top speed of 155 mph. The standard grade’s output tops out at 522 hp with boost mode (normally 496 hp).

    The updated Taycan’s battery has grown to 105 kwh and this will likely be the case for the updated E-Tron GT, meaning more range. Charging speeds should also be faster. Looking again to the updated Taycan, the updated E-Tron GT’s maximum charging rate should come in at 320 kw, up from the current 270 kw.

    Horsepower should get a significant boost as well. There are rumors of Audi adding a new RS Performance E-Tron GT flagship, possibly with a peak output approaching the 938 hp of the Taycan Turbo S.

    News of the updated E-Tron GT comes hot on the heels of the reveal of the new 2025 Audi Q6 E-Tron compact crossover. Audi is also preparing a new A6 E-Tron for launch later this year, and beyond 2026 the automaker plans to only introduce EVs.
