That’s expensive for a compact crossover from Hyundai, even one powered by batteries, but the N in the name signifies the vehicle as a dedicated performance offering from the Hyundai N performance division.

This means the crossover comes with an impressive 641 hp from a standard dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, plus various N-developed functions including one that simulates gear shifts for the feel of a gas powertrain. The power rating is normally 600 hp but a boost function lifts output to 641 hp for 10-second blasts.

Hyundai said the Ioniq 5 can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds using launch control (which is adjustable through three levels of traction) and reach a top speed of 162 mph.

The Ioniq 5 N also comes fully equipped, meaning buyers won’t have to add an extras. Hyundai N is known to be developing some performance parts for the crossover, some of which were previewed in January at the 2024 Tokyo auto salon with the Ioniq 5 NPX1 concept car. There’s been no mention on when parts might be avaialble, though.

The standard battery is an 84-kwh unit. It can accept a charge rate up to 350 kw, which will charge it from 10-80% in 18 minutes. A range estimate hasn’t been provided, but the regular Ioniq 5 with a smaller 77.4-kwh battery gets an EPA estimate as high as 303 miles in some grades.

Hyundai has shown an updated Ioniq 5 in Korea, which swaps the 77.4-kwh battery for the 84-kwh unit of the Ioniq 5 N. There are also some minor tweaks to the dash and the addition of a Ioniq 5 N Line model that adopts some of the sportier design touches of the Ioniq 5 N but doesn’t gain any extra power. Hyundai hasn’t announcing timing for the updated Ioniq 5’s launch outside of Korea.

The Polestar 3 is just months out from the start of deliveries, and Polestar has released pricing details for the U.S. The electric midsize SUV will bring with it clean Swedish design, seating for five, and up to 517 hp.

Cadillac will continue to offer performance cars, even when its lineup is fully electric. The automaker will provide a glimpse of its future performance with a concept called the Opulent Velocity, and a teaser video released today hints at the concept being a sedan.

Pricing for the 2025 Polestar 3 is out, and the latest prices are a little lower than what we were expecting. The cheapest (and only) version announced for 2024 started at $85,300, but now the basement for 2025 is $74,800, including the $1,400 destination charge.

For that price, you get the new, base Long Range Dual Motor w/Pilot Pack – that pack includes Pilot Assist, Park Assist Pilot, Lane Change Assist and a head-up display. Do note that every version of the Polestar 3 for 2025 is a “Long Range Dual Motor” model with the Pilot Pack, though, as Polestar hasn’t revealed any lesser versions yet. 

The above model didn’t exist for 2024; the Long Range Dual Motor w/Pilot and Plus Pack was what Polestar offered as the base model previously. For 2025, this model is $5,000 cheaper, coming in at $80,300. The Plus Pack adds luxurious amenities such as a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, wool seats, air purifier, 21-inch wheels and heated rear seats.

The Performance Pack cars get a hefty discount for 2025, as well. Opt for this model, and it starts at $80,800. Tack the Plus Pack onto the Performance Pack car, and you’re looking at an $86,300 price – again, that’s a $5,000 discount versus 2024. As a reminder, the Performance Pack nets you 28 more horsepower and 51 additional pound-feet of torque (for a grand total of 517 and 671, respectively), more aggressive suspension tuning, 22-inch forged wheels and gold accents throughout the car. The 0-to-60 mph sprint drops from 5.0 to 4.7 seconds thanks to the extra power.

The $7,500 tax credit is not available if you purchase a Polestar 3 right now because initial production is occurring in Chengdu, China. However, that could change when Polestar begins production of the car in South Carolina, which it currently claims will happen “in the middle of 2024.” In the meantime, Polestar points out that you can at least take advantage of the $7,500 credit if you lease one of the Chinese-built cars.

Initial deliveries are expected to take place in the second quarter of this year, and you’re able to both configure and order the 2025 model on Polestar’s website now.

In July 2021, Lotus revealed the Emira, its final ICE-powered sports car before flipping to an all-electric lineup. By the time we got to drive it in December 2023, our Zac Palmer wrote, “you can’t spend $105,900 on a single car that would be more fun than the V6 First Edition I drove. There just isn’t another option out there that drives like the Emira, putting it in a class of its own for the enthusiast who wants the most unfiltered experience possible.” The problem for Emira buyers reading that — the ones sitting on reservations more than two years old — was that none of them had their cars. Last March, Gator Motorsports’ franchise Indy Lotus in Indianapolis sent a letter to reservation holders explaining the holdup as U.S. certification, specifically certification by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). At the same time, CarBuzz reported that Emira V6 First Edition units destined for the U.S. would land here last summer but wouldn’t be released to customers until between mid-October and mid-December.

Except Lotus dealers then had to explain to buyers in January of this year that cars here were getting a software update, likely for certification purposes. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency had given the Emira its blessing, but Lotus didn’t want to deliver units that couldn’t be registered in the 14 states that adhere to CARB mandates, so it held all of them (and perhaps prevented some car-flipping). At the end of last month, the Californians approved of what Lotus had done with its engine programming, freeing the Emira to head to good homes. At one point, Lotus planned to have cars here in time to get into the 2022 model year, now it’s a 2024. On the Emira Forum, in a thread about USA and Canadian delivery that’s grown to more than 500 pages, someone posted the CARB approval on March 2, page 461 of the thread. The first response from a forum member in Stage 4 of the Five Stages of Grief — mentioned just four posts earlier — was, “Is this legit? This isn’t something you did as a joke on the forum?” It’s no joke, other forum posters are reporting that they are receiving their cars.

Nay, twas not a joke. What’s also serious is a higher price for the eventual entry-level trim, the Emira First Edition powered by an AMG-sourced turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It’s not here yet, but getting in line for one means paying $99,900 before delivery and options instead of the $85,900 price announced with the coupe’s introduction in March 2022. The Emira V6 First Edition rose as well, going from $93,900 to $105,400, a slightly smaller delta than foisted upon the four-cylinder trim. The jump in the entry trim’s price means that the non-First Edition trim is almost certain to cost more than the $74,900 declared in October 2021. This 360-hp AMG mill will eventually replace the 400-hp Toyota six-cylinder as the only Emira on sale to the end of its run. The good news, though, is that the regular run of V6-powered models, the ones that can be had with a manual transmission, should get a nice discount once Lotus works through the First Editions.
