    Once Columbia University’s administrators called the cops in on students protesting Israel’s genocide in Gaza, and the Fox News crowd started foaming at the mouth for teens to be beaten or killed, you knew it was only a matter of time before someone ended up in the hospital. Sadly, it appears that is now the case, as someone reportedly drove their car into a crowd of protesters. The person the driver hit later went to the hospital in an ambulance.

    Per reports from Talia Jane, who is Jewish, during a protest outside the house of a Columbia trustee, Reuven Kahane, a local real estate developer, initially drove up to a group of protesters and asked for a flyer. When someone offered one to him, he instead grabbed their arm and drove off. Next Kahane drove his Volvo around the block, sometimes swerving toward the sidewalk, and then directed his car at the protesters themselves.

    A de-escalator at the back of the march attempted to get Kahane to wait, but he hit her with his car anyway. A second de-escalator then sat in front of his car to prevent him from driving into the crowd, but was later arrested. The first de-escalator called an ambulance for an injury to her leg. Kahane was also arrested, and the injured de-escalator was detained at the hospital.

    Independent journalist Marisa Kabas has since confirmed that Reuven Kahane was arrested by the NYPD. He is currently charged with second-degree assault, a felony. Kabas also confirmed the de-escalator he hit was a 55-year-old woman who is currently charged with criminal mischief and unlawful assembly, while the de-escalator who sat in front of Kahane’s car has been charged with criminal mischief. The safety/de-escalation team was reportedly made up entirely of non-student volunteers.

    Jane also claims to have seen video of the commanding officer calling the student protesters “fucking morons” and saying, “there’s consequences as an adult,” as if it’s somehow their fault that someone tried to drive a car into their march. For the record: If you use your car to intentionally hurt people, you are a bad person. No amount of annoyance or personal inconvenience justifies using a deadly weapon to attack a group of protesters, cyclists or anyone else you don’t like.

    2025 BMW M4 CS rocks the party with 543 hp

    BMW’s 4-Series range has undergone a mid-cycle update for the 2025 model year, and as part of the update the high-performance M4 coupe has spawned a CS grade.

    Revealed late on Tuesday, the new 2025 M4 CS is set to sail into showrooms later this year with a starting price of $124,675, including a $1,175 destination charge.

    The car makes its formal debut on May 10 and will be available to order from the end of the month, BMW has confirmed. It will most likely be a limited edition, just like the M3 CS that was offered for 2024, as well as the previous-generation M4 CS from last decade.

    The M4 CS helps bridge the gap between the regular M4 Competition grade and the bonkers M4 CSL that was launched for 2023. It lifts performance by adding more horsepower but also shedding weight.

    BMW quotes a 0-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed capped at 188 mph. BMW also says the car can also lap Germany’s Nürburgring racetrack in time of 7:21.99.

    Power comes from BMW M’s familiar 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-6, tuned here to deliver 543 hp, or the same as the M4 CSL. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel-drive system. The AWD features a rear bias, and a 4WD Sport mode can further intensify this bias. Should the driver want a classic rear-wheel-drive feel, there’s also the option to have all of the drive torque sent to the rear wheels only.

    For weight reduction, BMW used lightweight carbon-fiber-reinforced-plastic for the hood, roof, front splitter, front intakes, side mirror caps, and rear spoiler. Carbon parts are also used throughout the cabin, including for the standard bucket seats that also feature Merino leather trim. A titanium muffler rounds out the list of weight-saving mods that all up add to around 45 pounds compared to the M4 Competition.

    The chassis is also tweaked with the addition of a front strut brace, uprated brakes (carbon-ceramic rotors are available), and forged wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear. The wheels come with performance tires as standard but buyers can fit a track-ready tire as a no-cost option. BMW says there are also unique settings for the wheel camber, anti-roll bars, and adaptive dampers.

    Like the rest of the 2025 4-Series range, the M4 CS features updated designs for the internals of the lights at both ends. The daytime running lights also have a yellow shade, instead of the typical white color.

    Opening the doors reveals sill plates with an “M4 CS” inscription. Inside the cabin, the digital screens also feature graphics unique to the model, and joining the previously mentioned standard sport bucket seats is a standard sport steering wheel with a flat-bottom design and Alcantara trim. Carbon-fiber-reinforced-plastic is used around the cabin, including for the shifter paddles.

    Also fitted as standard is M Drive Professional, a package that includes both the M Drift Analyzer and M Laptimer for recording drives for later evaluation. M Drive Professional also includes M Traction Control, which lets the driver adjust the traction control between 10 settings, and the M Mode drive mode selector, which has Road, Sport, and Track options.

    BMW is upping the ante of the M4 lineup with the addition of the 2025 M4 CS, which is meant to bring a little bit more of that hard edge to its sports coupe over the current M4 Competition. Like the BMW M3 CS that came out last year, the new M4 CS has more power, a retuned chassis and some weight reduction all in an effort to make the CS faster and more fun than the cars that slot below it.

    The M4 CS pumps out 543 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, a 20-hp bump over the M4 Competition, but torque remains the same. It’ll also carry over the regular M4 Competition’s 8-speed M Steptronic transmission and standard xDrive all-wheel-drive. BMW was able to squeeze that horsepower bump out of its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter S58 inline-6 by upgrading the twin-scroll turbos, raising the engine’s maximum boost pressure to 30.5 psi, and by tweaking the engine management computer.

    BMW says the CS has a 3.2-second 0-to-60-mph time (0.2 second quicker than the normal M4 Comp), a Nürbrugring Nordschleife lap time of 7:21.99 (about 7 seconds quicker than Sport Auto got in the M4 Comp), and an electronically limited top speed of 199 mph (19 mph faster than the M4 Comp). That’s quite brisk.

    Even though the M4 CS is all-wheel drive, BMW says that, like other AWD M cars, you can still stick it in rear-wheel drive mode if you so please. Regardless, the system is rear-biased no matter what you do (as it should be). BMW also switched up the axle kinematics, camber settings, dampers, auxiliary springs and anti-roll bars for more aggressive driving. Electronically controlled dampers on the Adaptive M suspension also have a bespoke setup for the M4 CS, and the steering has been retuned as well. Additionally, there’s a new front strut brace for increased torsional rigidity and better handling.

    The M4 CS is also fitted as standard with BMW’s M Compound brakes, and you can choose to have your calipers painted red or black. If that just isn’t enough braking power for you, feel free to upgrade to the M Carbon ceramic brake setup with calipers that can be finished in red or gold. Going around those big ol’ brakes are forged alloy wheels that can be painted either Gold Bronze or matte black. You’ll find 275/25ZR19 tires up front and 285/30ZR20 rubber out back. Track tires are also a no-cost extra if you’re feeling a bit wacky.

    To shave weight, BMW broke out the carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic and threw it all over the M4 CS. One of the best examples is the carbon-fiber roof that aids in lowering the car’s center of gravity. The hood, front splitter, front air intakes, exterior mirror caps, rear diffuser and rear spoiler are also made from CFRP. Step inside and you’ll find a hell of a lot more of the stuff. The center console, shift paddles and various other pieces of trim are made of CFRP. The biggest piece of carbon fiber inside the car, though, are the M Carbon bucket seats, which look totally badass and probably are not that comfortable, but who needs comfort?

    BMW also cut weight out of the M4’s exhaust system using a titanium rear silencer. All of these things put together means the CS is 77 pounds lighter than the M4 Competition. When the car launches, it’ll be available in just two colors: Riviera Blue and Frozen Isle of Man Green Metallic. It also has plenty of red bits and exterior carbon-fiber accents, a reworked kidney grille and a slightly different lighting treatment with yellow DRLs that’ll let people know this is no ordinary M4.

    Having already spent time with the M3 CS on track, I can tell you with certainty that the M4 CS will be just as if not more bonkers. The 2025 M4 CS will make its first in-person appearance this Friday, May 10 at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Laguna Seca, as well as the Spa-Francorchamps World Endurance Car Championship. BMW says the M4 CS will start at $124,675 (including destination) when it enters production alongside other M4 variants at the company’s factory in Dingolfing starting in July of this year.

    This weekend’s Miami Grand Prix was the most-watched F1 broadcast in the U.S. in the history of the sport, and it wasn’t even close. There are many factors for this, including that the event was broadcast on the terrestrial ABC instead of its typical ESPN, the race took place in the Eastern Time Zone so it was on at 4 pm Eastern instead of the normal early mornings we usually see, and to some extent, Americans wanted to see a race on home soil. A full 3.1 million Americans were watching Lando Norris take his maiden victory on Sunday, a new record taken from the inaugural Miami Grand Prix in 2022 which had just 2.6 million American viewers.

    This race was notable in that it featured someone winning other than Max Verstappen, and while Lando managed the win with a mix of luck and strategy, his McLaren also had the pace to fend off Verstappen for a full stint. The Miami track isn’t much to write home about, and the on-track battles were few and far between, but it was pretty decent, I guess. What did you think of the Miami Grand Prix? Were you one of the 3.1 million of us watching?

    Interestingly, Saturday’s sprint race on ESPN averaged 946,000 viewers, the largest audience for a sprint race in the U.S. since the introduction of that race format in 2021. For all the complaints about the sprint format, to see that event get nearly a million views on a Saturday afternoon is a revelation. I, for one, appreciate sprint races. More racing is more better.

    The sport has been growing in popularity among Americans for the last handful of seasons, and it seems that the growth isn’t going to be slowing down any time soon. I wouldn’t expect this record to last very long — perhaps the events at COTA or Las Vegas later in the season will eclipse this one in mere months.

    This is part of our Car Buyer’s Glossary series breaking down all the terms you need to know if you’re buying a new or used car from a dealership.

    When shopping for a new car, you’ll likely run across the term MSRP in reference to pricing. In fact, MSRP is an abbreviation for “manufacturer’s suggested retail price.” It’s an apt name, as it is simply the price that the manufacturer suggests the dealer asks for the car. It’s also referred to as the sticker price. You’ll see it on the Monroney (aka window sticker) while perusing any dealership shopping for cars — it’s the law to have it there.

    However, the dealership doesn’t have to charge that price at all and in fact rarely does. It’s only “suggested,” after all. Most of the time buyers will drive away having paid less than the MSRP lists, but the dealership can also mark the price up when there is heavy demand for a particular car. Historically, this has meant recently introduced cars that have captured the attention of car enthusiasts or even the general public. However, supply shortages can lead dealers to mark up even relatively mundane new cars, as happened during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

    So, how is the MSRP determined?

    This price is determined by a manufacturer by adding up the base price, destination charges and options on the car. The base price is typically what the car costs without any of the aforementioned charges included. Put everything together, and you’ll be looking at the MSRP.

    Is MSRP the same as the selling price?

    No. Remember, the “S” in MSRP stands for suggested. It’s basically a starting point for negotiations

    What effect does MSRP have on what you ultimately pay?

    The MSRP, also known as the sticker price, is most likely the biggest factor in what you end up walking out the door paying. Of course, you can negotiate a cheaper price if the dealer is willing to negotiate. Dealerships will always try to get you to pay that full MSRP, but more times than not, a deal is struck below said value.

    Does MSRP include tax?

    No. Sales tax and registration fees are not included in the MSRP. If there is a gas guzzler tax on a particularly inefficient car, however, that will be included in the sticker price.

    How much below MSRP is the dealer invoice?

    The invoice price is the amount the dealer pays to the manufacturer, which is usually hundreds or thousands less than the MSRP. The difference between invoice and MSRP is usually less than 10%, though. Dealers are unlikely to divulge the invoice price on a car.

    How much off MSRP can I negotiate?

    That depends on the car, supply and demand, and whether there are any incentives available. You can probably get a better price on a slow-selling model, but on, say, a newly launched enthusiast car, you might be lucky just to avoid a markup above MSRP. There’s no magic number, here, but if you research what other people are paying for the same model — the market value — that could help you decide what you think is a fair price when you go to the dealership.

    Does MSRP include destination fee?

    The advertised MSRP does not usually include destination fees (some automakers include them), though a window sticker will include destination in the car’s total MSRP, which includes options and other additional equipment.

    All seems pretty straightforward, right?

    That’s right. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is one of the easier concepts to grasp when it comes to navigating the process of buying a new car. It’s a super-easy way to compare vehicles in the same segment based on what a manufacturer thinks the car is worth. Most manufacturers’ websites will list the MSRP, so figuring out what a car costs is simple online. Sometimes you’ll see manufacturers use MSRP for describing a car’s price without any options or destination charges.

    Pay attention to promotions and sales that manufacturers run every now and then, though. If you bide your time and wait for the car you want to have some cash on the hood, there’s a great chance of you driving away with a new car for far below the listed MSRP. Or, if the auto industry is mired in supply shortages, it might be best to hold off that new car purchase if you want to pay less than MSRP (or not pay more than it).

    BEIJING – U.S. automaker Tesla sold 62,167 China-made electric vehicles in April, down 18% from a year earlier, lagging the broader market’s surge, China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) data showed on Tuesday. 

    Tesla shares fell 3.8% on Tuesday, amid concerns about softening demand for Tesla EVs and an intensifying price war, especially against Chinese rivals. Tesla’s China-made cars, which accounted for over half the automaker’s global deliveries last year, are also exported to various markets including Europe and the CPCA didn’t provide a breakdown of Tesla exports by destination. Tuesday’s numbers are a prelude of full data for April due out later this week.

    Deliveries of China-made Model 3 and Model Y vehicles slid 30.2% from March. The sharp slide contrasts with rising EV sales in the world’s largest auto market, albeit at the slowest pace in a year in the first quarter.

    China’s new-energy vehicle sales including battery-powered EVs and plug-in hybrids were estimated to hit 800,000 units in April, up 33% on the year and a 2% drop from the month before, according to CPCA data.

    Tesla’s biggest Chinese rival BYD, with its Dynasty and Ocean lineups of EVs and plug-in hybrids, sold 312,048 passenger vehicles in April, up 48.97% year-on-year and a 3.5% increase from March.

    Tesla, led by its billionaire CEO Elon Musk, saw first-quarter global vehicle deliveries fall for the first time in nearly four years.

    Tesla’s sales of China-made vehicles declined 4% during the January to March period, from a year earlier.
     
    The company began the second quarter announcing layoffs of more than 10% of its global workforce and slashing vehicle prices in major markets including the United States, China and Europe.

    Late April, Musk visited China and made progress towards rolling out Tesla’s advanced driver-assistance package in China, which may help it better compete with local rivals.

    Gruenheide to be idled amidst protests

    Tesla will shut down production in its German plant in Gruenheide for four days due to protests against its expansion plans, German newspaper Handelsblatt reported on Tuesday.

    The electric car manufacturer is sending all employees to work from home on Friday, according to an email seen by Handelsblatt that was sent to employees on Monday.

    Thursday is a public holiday in Germany.

    Production will end with the late shift on Wednesday and begin again with the night shift on Sunday, Handelsblatt said. Access to the factory will only be possible with manager approval.

    Tesla was not immediately available to comment.

    Tesla’s ambitions to expand its German plant hit a roadblock in February when citizens voted against a motion to raze trees and make way for the larger site.

    Activists have announced several protests against Tesla’s expansion for the coming week, including a rally in front of the factory gates on Friday.
